As show results of recent antivirus solutions testing for Android, solely usage of Google Play Protect is insufficient for ensuring safety from cyberthreats.
Researchers from AV-TEST analyzed 19 antivirus products on their effectiveness, functionality and convenience of usage. On every of these three parameters applications was scored with maximum of 6 points for effectiveness and convenience and 1 point for functionality.Highest score with 13 maximum points received applications AhnLab V3 Mobile Security, Avast Mobile Security, AVGAntivirus Free, ESET Endpoint Security, Kaspersky Lab Internet Security for Android, Sophos Mobile Security, Symantec Norton Mobile Security and Trend Micro Mobile Security. Their effectiveness and convenience scored 6 points and their functionality got 1 point.
Products from Bitdefender, F-Secure, G Data, McAfee and SK Telecom evaluated in 12,5 points each.
The lowest mark with only three total points got only one application and it was Google Play Protect. Three points this program received for convenience of use while effectiveness and functionality scored zero.

During the testing of ability to block malware files in real-time mode, application blocked only 62% of malwares while medium result of other applications was 97,8%. Considering protection from recent malwares that were released in the last four weeks, result was slightly better – 69.2%. sin embargo, result of other solutions was 98.2%.
While installing and exploitation of legitimate applications from Google Play Store antivirus issues 189 falsepositive notifications.
